leonardo da vinci, leonardo da vinci paintings - Students give Renaissance lessons a modern twist (The Lake Wales News)

The school year may be 2008-2009, but the school’s “theme” is the Renaissance. Teachers and students are being very creative in how they incorporate Renaissance ideas and concepts into regular school activities and programs. Part of the Red Ribbon Week program celebrated the lives of four Renaissance leaders, so the school could include references to Renaissance gains in the arts and sciences. These four great men also reminded students in the audience that if they wanted to change the world, they would need to make good choices and stay away from things that would harm them, such as drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

leonardo da vinci, leonardo da vinci paintings - Taste of Italiano (The State)

Joe Strappiello, the owner of Antonina’s restaurant in Lexington and one of the vendors, tossed hula hoop-wide dough in the air for the pizza slices that were being gobbled by guests. Beyond the food, the street fair was really a kid’s playground, a place where they could make Venetian masks at a craft station or draw with chalk on a balcony overlooking the atrium. For kids and adults, there was bocce, an Italian game that’s similar to bowling, in that a ball, about the size of a small grapefruit, is rolled. The wheels turned — literally and figuratively — in the exhibit as many marveled at the devices of Renaissance engineering.

CSI teaches kids with ‘maggot art’ (The Palm Beach Post)- About: leonardo da vinci, leonardo da vinci paintings

What hatches is called a maggot, a very basic creature with a small mouth at one end and a much larger excretory hole at the other. The number of generations of maggots hatched on a body is one of several indicators of when death occurred. The maggots also can be tested for drugs and other substances in the victim’s body at the time of death. Maggot life span is one indicator of time of death, and maggots can be tested for the drugs in the tissue they feed on. Lambert hatched a handful of plump, wiggly maggots on a fryer chicken she left outside in a cage all weekend. Given the color choices, a co-worker suggests that she scan them and put them up on the Web as her Hanukkah and Christmas cards.
